Cellulosic ethanol demonstration plant opens in Vonore
Body
Elected officials and representatives of the University of Tennessee, DuPont, Danisco, and Genera attended the grand opening of Tennessee's first facility to produce ethanol from agricultural residues and energy crops such as switchgrass and corn cobs. The Vonore, Tennessee, plant will be able to produce 250,000 gallons of ethanol annually. The plant has about $100 million research investment by DuPont and Danisco and is part of UT’s Biofuels Initiative, promoted by Gov. Phil Bredesen, to establish a center for bioenergy crop research and production for the growing biofuels industry. Read more
